THE place for lesbians to holiday
We had a wonderful holiday at Bambu in Southern Spain. After leaving Malaga we drove through avocado groves, and along a dirt track we came upon Bambu, sitting in the hills with stunning views across to the mountains not so far distant. There are seven studios, of varying size but all very adequate and all well furnished and comfortable. We saw them all and didn't know which we'd choose next time. There are three grouped together which will offer a little more privacy away from the pool edge, one of which has its own terrace. All have a bed/sitting room, a small kitchen, and bathroom . A large terrace with a smallish pool is the social area. In the summer we imagined women, gathering at the bar, around the large table or in and around the pool; or they might choose to eat and sit quietly close to their apartment. We were there at the end of March and had the place mostly to ourselves, just unwinding and relaxing. We barbecued one evening and sat beneath the gas heater enjoying the peacefulness. During the day it was usually warm enough to soak up the sun. We walked in to the local village for provisions, went to the local beaches and wound our way to hill villages. Twice we went much further afield and had really interesting days at Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada. The owners Catherine Potter and Susanne Moffatt were lovely hosts, helpful, attentive but not intrusive. We shall return! What better recommendation. It would also be a great place for a small group to go together. There’s good walking up in the hills but you need transport and good maps. See you there?!!! … Josephine and Helen

… Claudia and Kristin

We spent 5 days/4 nights and had a lovely relaxing time will definitely return though next time will hire a car as the village is great but after a few visits you need something different. Also the sight of the sea and mountains are just too enticing. See you next year ladies!! and thank you.  … Louise & Emma

We had such a wonderful week at Bambu. We arrived just a little bit frazzled after negotiating the drive from Malaga airport - great roads, and great instructions, but a different side of the road than we are used to, so we were a little stressed. We arrived at Bambu and instantly felt relaxed and at home. It is in such a lovely peaceful spot, surrounded by avocado orchards, and huge hills. We had a pleasant well-equipped room, simple but comfortable, and were given lots of information about local haunts, including how to find our way to the village nearby to buy food for dinner after siesta. We met some lovely women, and enjoyed meals around the 'big table', drinking fabulous (and cheap!) local wine as the night slowly fell. The pool was a delight, and we spent a lot of our week on a lounger, reading great books (good selection to enjoy) and snacking on fantastic cheese, olives, bread, fruit and ham between swims. We really enjoyed a couple of trips into nearby Torre del Mar, which is big enough to have some great restaurants (fantastic reasonably priced seafood at La Cueva) but small enough to not attract hoards of tourists - and it has a great beach. We would highly recommend Bambu and very much hope to return.  … Caz & Dee

We were at Bambu for just one week, but came back so relaxed and felt as if we had been there for much longer. The apartment provided everything we needed, was clean and very comfortable. The pool was lovely - very clean - perfect for swimming or just lazing about. Plenty of loungers, nice shady bar area - and even three gorgeous cats!
We met both couples and solo travellers - everyone was so friendly and most evenings we spent with other people - although that wasn't necessarily what we had planned - but there was no pressure to socialise if you wanted to be more private. We walked into the village a couple of times - which is steep and not a journey you would want to do in full sun carrying shopping - although a taxi back wasn't too expensive if there are a few of you sharing. Guests with cars were more than happy to give lifts to those who didn't, and as a group we visited the Alhambra which was a great day out - about 90 minutes away by car - book in advance and leave plenty of time to get there or you'll miss your timed entry slot - as we did (you can see the gardens, library, museum and fortress at any time, but the palace has to be booked). We have come home with many new friends and will certainly plan to come back in the future. Thank you to Catherine and Suzanne - you're both wonderful hosts!  … Amanda and Nicki

A private retreat to recharge, relax, have fun and meet great friends. It really is surrounded by avocado and mango groves. The exotic smells in the evening are wonderful, a real experience. Our ten days were spent relaxing, reading and playing in the pool (which was spotlessly clean). You can be as sociable as you like. We spent the afternoons playing volleyball and other silly water games - the loser of which would make coffee for everybody by the bar area. We hired a car and spent a couple of evenings with other guests dining out at destinations such as Torre Del Mar. Some of the guests didn't have hire cars but there was always somebody willing to offer them a lift. We walked down to Benamacarra one day. It wasn't too far, about 20 minutes, but was very hot on the uphill walk back to Bambu (35 degrees in August!). The roads to Bambu are a little intimidating at first but after tackling them a couple of times they are pretty straight forward to navigate. In the evenings often we would all buy a little something and barbecue as a group. The atmosphere was wonderful with lots of chatter and games. We also spent a couple of evenings as a couple going to a wonderful indian restaurant that overlooks Lake Vinuela and to Nerja to explore the amazing caves and snorkel in the sea. Bambu really is a wonderful place. The views are breathtaking, the building is lovely, the facilities are excellent and Catherine is friendly and always willing to help. Towels and linen were provided and there is a washing machine on site for guests to use for a small charge. There is a well stocked honesty bar providing beer, chocolate and water. for any 'lipsticks' please note that you have to bring your own hairdryer! We look forward to a return visit.  … Emma & Abi

Having never stayed in an exclusive lesbian resort before we were a little apprehensive as to what to expect, however our expectations were exceeded within a few hours of arrival.
Bambu only has 7 rooms and this makes for an ideal number of people to socialise with without the resort feeling overcrowded, allowing for both "individual couple" and group time.
The booking process and information prior to arrival from Catherine and Susanne was superb, including the directions to find this "little oasis". Tip for all, I would hire a car for your stay, as Bambu is remote but this adds to the ambience and uniqueness of the resort. However, as we found, Bambu is more like a little family and therefore everyone helped out with those that didn't have cars. When we were there, 2 nights the entire resort went into town (Torre del Mar) for cocktails and dinner on the beach.
Bambu was fully booked for the duration of our stay with a mixture of both English and Spanish guests (most of which had been to Bambu the year previous) which made a great mix of people for the long and often drink fuelled evenings around the bar and terrace table!
There is an honesty bar which is great for those evenings when you want just one more drink or fancy some chocolate!
Bambu have created the ideal setting to enjoy each others company as well as socialising and making new friends.
We went to Bambu with reservations but left not only with a whole host of new friends but also determined that this has to have been the best holiday in a long time.
Would definitely recommend to lesbian couples looking for that special something.
Thank you Catherine and Susanne and see you again soon.  … Clare and Tasha

We loved it: the pool, the view over the mountains, the nicely decorated rooms and accommodation, the relaxed atmosphere, the bar, the service. It is the perfect place to find rest and spend quality time with your partner, or to enjoy the sun and rest when travelling alone. And, if you like, you can have a chat with other women from all over the world. We were so enthusiastic about this resort that we changed our travel plans and booked a few more days to stay. We certainly recommend this place!  … Jantine & Tracy

We went to bambu in the middle of june for the sole purpose of getting away from it all and to relax. After a lot of thought and deliberation we decided to hire a car which we were so glad we did as bambu is so rural.
After arriving more than 2hours late (got a bit lost)! we were greeted by catherine who was so warm and welcoming. She gave us loads of information of the village and Andalucia in general which we found really useful. we had the apartment with our own private terrace which we loved and had our breakfast every morning in the warm sun and the stunning views..bliss. we loved the pool, which catherine keeps spotlessly clean and we met a lovely couple (Donna and Abbey) who we had a laugh with.(hi guys, if you ever read this)
we had a great time at bambu and fell in love with Andalucia, we would have kicked ourselves if we hadn't have had a car to explore the area.
If your looking for a fab getaway in lovely surroundings where you can be yourselves then go and stay at bambu! Catherine is such a lovely person who goes out of her way to make sure you have a great stay. One day we will endeavour to go back! … Andrea and Lindsey

absolutely amazing holiday at a beautiful place with lovely hosts. loved the little extra touches like a torch in the drawer, extra towels, and loads of books and games. we'll definitely be back!  … Jo and Lisa

Lovely place, friendly owners, good location, very enjoyable.  … Suzie & Lisa

Just spent a week at Bambu recharging our batteries and we're so sad to have left!
We hired a car from the airport and found Bambu with no trouble, the directions are very good and the only dirt track is right at the end. We did buy a european map for the satnav though just for extra reassurance when out & about!
We were welcomed by Catherine on arrival and shown to our immaculately clean room. Very impressed with the little extras like water and wine in the room on arrival and loved the idea of the honesty bar in the communal area.
Bambu was relatively quiet that week but it didn't bother us at all. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool surrounded by awesome views of the Andalucian mountains. Bambu also has 3 friendly cats to keep you company, they are so sweet!
We dined in Benamocarra one night but mainly cooked in our apartment - there's a big supermarket 15 minutes away by car.
Overall, we had a great holiday and are planning to go back in the future. Highly recommend it!  … Anna and Jasmine

A visit to Bambu is highly recommended as is the Maroma apartment in which we stayed. The private terrace was worth the extra money! The location is breathtaking and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly. A wonderfully relaxing holiday filled with many happy memories.  … Leanne & Becki

Bambu completely served our purpose. We wanted a relaxing, chill out week and that's exactly what it offered. The rural location provided tranquility and serenity. Our room overlooked the swimming pool and had direct access to the shaded porch area which was a God send with the wonderful afternoon temperatures in early June. It was a delight to be joined on a daily basis by Bambu's three beautiful cats! Catherine was friendly and always available to advise and suggest places to visit, restaurants etc. She was very welcoming even after waiting for us following an 8.5 hour airport delay. Bambu is within easy reach or many lovely costal resorts including Nerja, Torre del Mar and Rincon de la Victoria. We believe that a car is essential if you wish to enjoy the amazing region. Despite having the smallest available hire car (1L engine) we found no difficulty accessing Bambu night and day. Bambu offered free 24 hour WiFi which was invaluable in allowing me to download a translator app! Despite Spain not being renowned for it's vegetarian cuisine we found no difficulty in finding lovely food.  … Gill & Lorraine

We throughly enjoyed our time at Bambu and hope to visit again soon. We will have no hesitation in recommending it to friends.  … Jane and Jane

Catherine and Susanne really make you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very clean, well presented and the kitchen was very well equipped. The location was slightly remote and it is well advisable to hire a car. We enjoyed the escape and serenity of Bambu with its lovely views.  … Dana & Helen

We were at Bambu for 3 days in February. The weather was warm enough to sunbathe. It is doubtless more lively during the Summer but as we wanted a quiet break it suited us fine. Perfect away-from-it-all situation, the silence broken only by the wind chime, and bells round the necks of passing sheep. The village is within walking distance, where we found all we needed. Lots more to do and see locally but we will save that for our next visit.
Catherine and Susanne are lovely hosts, and as they stocked the fridge and drove us from and to the airport, all we had to do was relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.  … Jenny and Julie

Obviamente..........REPETIREMOS EXPERIENCIA!  … Pauola and Ursula

My partner and I stayed in Bambu this August and we loved it.
We were collected at Malaga airport by Catherine and arrived to the calm soothing peaceful Bambu after a pleasant drive away from the madness that is the Costa Del Sol.
The resort itself is an old Finca that has been refurbished and separated into 7 apartments. Each apartment is different and decorated by Catherine and Susanne with furniture from their own home, which gives every room a lived in, welcoming and comfortable feel - no 'mass produced one size/style fits all' in sight.
The pool is great and in August we spent most of our time either in the pool or nearby. It gets really hot in that part of Spain, but there is a nice breeze that comes in across the garden from the mountains and the valley where the Finca is located. The rooms are lovely and kitchens very well equipped but it’s really the fantastic views that will make you fall in love with this place. We did yoga with the lovely Maggie every few evenings and looking out at the view during those wonderful classes was truly one of the most joyful experiences that I have ever had.
It is self catering and you can get all you need in the village nearby or the large supermarket about 20 minutes away. A car is needed for this, but in fact we found that guests usually helped each other out with lifts etc,
The women we met in Bambu have become friends. There is something so easy and relaxing about the place that conversation flows and friendships are made around the pool during the day and around the bar or BBQ at night.
We headed off on our own a few days and there is plenty to see if you have a car. There is a respect for people's space too, so there is always room for alone time.
We were exhausted after a year of working hard and 3 weeks in Bambu replenished our batteries and our faith in the world. We'll be back very soon....  … Moninne and Clodagh

Saludos.  … Vero and Betty

… Charo and Carmen
